The Many Uses of Craft Boxes

Craft Boxes

There are so many types of craft boxes. We all look at plain wooden craft boxes or paper mache boxes in the craft store and wonder what we can do with them. Not everyone is skilled at painting designs on a plain surface, but there are many other things you can do.

If you are not great at painting free hand designs; you can certainly spray paint or paint the box a solid color with a brush. There is a huge array of rubber stamps in all kinds of attractive designs and letters that you can use to accent the boxes. How about using a contrasting color or even gold or silver for monogramming the box? You could then use some sort of trim applied with a hot glue gun to finish it. Use your imagination and you could come up with something spectacular. The small round wood craft boxes make excellent party favors. You could fill them with small candies or toys and put the recipient’s name or initial on top. Larger boxes will hold cookies, sachets, candles, or tea bags for an adult favor.

Another option would be to cover the box with fabric or decorative paper. Spray adhesives make this job much easier. Just be sure to cut carefully the first time. You know; measure twice, cut once. I usually cut a pattern from newspaper first to be sure it fits perfectly. Decoupage is another simple option. You can tear photos or different papers into pieces and arrange them on the box with decoupage medium. Once it is sealed, the box can be easily wiped off or dusted.

I found a site online called Bayley’s boxes. They carry some unique craft boxes that you may not see in your local craft store. They have boxes in the shape of cake slices that when put together form an entire cake. You can put favors inside and it makes a great statement for a baby or bridal shower. Their boxes come in shapes like flowers, starts, houses, purses, and heart shapes, just to name a few. I may have to revisit that site because I am already inspired.

If you are looking for something other than wooden craft boxes; the paper mache boxes come in all kinds of interesting shapes that make them ideal for crafting Christmas ornaments. Round, oval and egg shaped boxes could be decorated in a lot of different ways. They also have boxes shaped like nuts, pine cones, bells, and boots. Many of them open so you could enclose trinkets or candies. There are so many beautiful Christmas trims and decorations that you can hot glue onto the boxes once you paint it a solid color.

Whether you use paper mache, cardboard or wood craft boxes; you’ll be able to make some attractive and useful items that make great stocking stuffers. If you’re like me, you may have hard time giving them away so keep at least one for yourself.
