Has anyone out there ever made potato prints? It’s kind of a crude way to make a stamped design and a messy one, but if was fun when we were kids. You don’t have to raid the potato bin these days. Just head down the local craft store and get a craft rubber stamp. People used to just have rubber stamps for work. They might be to stamp receipts as paid or bills as past due. You can still have them custom printed with addresses, signatures, and other things.
I was amazed when I went to Michael’s at the huge array of rubber stamps they had on the shelves. I was looking for something to jazz up some plain paper bags that we used to dispense medicine at the veterinary hospital where I was working. We already had a stamp with our name and address but I wanted to give the plain white bags some personality. I was surprised to find a large number of animal stamps and finally settled on an adorable one with a cat and dog. After choosing a color for the ink pad, I went back to work and started stamping the bags. The clients loved the design and we used them for years.
You really do not have to be an artist to create a nice design on fabric or paper crafts. There are stamps for just about any occasion you can think of so creating holiday cards or party invitations is simple. If you use a fabric safe ink, you can stamp a border on tea towels or curtains for a one of a kind accessory. Think about stamping plain canvas tote bags for your friends or co-workers with something that speaks to their individual interests.
I don’t mind lending people my books, but I want the hard cover editions to be returned so I bought a rubber stamp that looked like a book plate and wrote my name inside. I haven’t lost a book since that time. If the book was a gift, it is also a nice way to remember when you received it and from whom.
If you can’t draw or paint, don’t worry about it. Get some craft rubber stamps and a few different ink pads to create one of a kind paper or fabric crafts.
