Paper Supplies Are Available Everywhere

Paper Supplies
If you have been to craft store recently; you may have noticed that there are now entire sections of the store devoted to paper craft supplies. This is no doubt in response to the incredible popularity of scrapbooking. When I was in school, people had scrapbooks, but they were quite amateurish compared the creations you see today. Our scrapbooks were often just books with black or beige blank pages and we taped or glued our mementoes onto the pages. The enormous varieties of paper supplies you can get today have catapulted scrapbooking into an entirely new category.
Not only can you find paper of every color and pattern in the scrapbooking department; you can also find different paper punches and scissors that leave a decorative edge on the paper. There are circle cutters and devices to trim paper into other shapes as well. You will also want an adhesive mat marked in grids to assure a straight edge to your paper cut outs. Scrapbooks today really are works of art. It’s amazing to see how much time and imagination people put into preserving their memories.
Another reason to seek paper supplies is making greeting cards. If you look at the price of even simple greeting cards; you may be inspired to craft your own. There is card stock in lots of colors and patterns and even coordinating paper to make envelopes. You can find directions to make pop-up cards. I always loved these and pop-up books when I was a kid and they are surprisingly easy to make. I think the computer has probably taken away a bit from letters and cards, but I love getting and sending cards during the holidays. Sure e-cards are quick and cute, but a little impersonal for my taste. Of course, if you look at the programs on your computer you may find that is has card making ability already installed.
There are a lot of paper crafts. Origami, quilling, and German paper cutting are just a few things you can do with paper. Paper has long been used in children’s craft projects. How many of us made paper chains for the Christmas tree in elementary school, not to mention handprints and silhouettes for our parents? Paper crafting is a good way to get your children involved in something creative. There are lots of pre-folded cards that can be embellished with pre cut paper designs. Children can use glues sticks and decorate them however they choose. Every grandparent will be thrilled to receive a handmade card or craft.
You could make your own paper as well. I have tried it. It’s a messy process, but you can get some pretty cool results. Don’t worry: if that’s not something you want to try, handmade paper can easily be purchased at a craft store or from one of the many online retailers who sell paper supplies. Get out there and be creative. If you just want to get your feet wet, buy a kit and try a small project. If you love working with paper craft supplies after that; you’ll have lots of options.
